Fethiye Bay in south-west Turkey is one of the best areas of the Mediterranean for a first sailing trip: short passages, warm water, lots of bays and plenty to see ashore. Here is the route we sail with our guests.
Start: Fethiye
The home marina is Ece Marina. Here you check in to the yacht, go through the safety briefing and shop for provisions. First dinner in town.
Gemiler island
Our favourite point on the route: ruins of ancient Lycia, clear water and a sunset we watch from the highest point on the island.
Ölüdeniz and Cold Water Bay
A famous beach and a chance to paraglide from Babadağ. For the night we move to a quiet bay.
Göcek and Sarsala Bay
Göcek is Turkey’s upscale resort town: restaurants, canals and yachts. Nearby, Sarsala Bay has hikes on the Lycian Way and beautiful sunsets.
Ekincik, Dalyan and Marmaris
On a longer route we call at Ekincik, cruise up the Dalyan river to Lycian ruins and sea turtles, try blue crabs and walk around old Marmaris. Cleopatra Bay is a perfect place to swim.
When to go
May and September are great for relaxed sailing. In late December and early January the air is about 18–20 °C by day and the sea about 18 °C: that is when we hold our yacht New Year.
